Good Afternoon SNOAC Community,

 

I hope you have been well! As a reminder, our next meeting is Thursday, November 7th at 10am and will be available in a hybrid format (virtual and in person). Virtually you can access the meeting via Zoom or in-person at Roseman University (**NEW ADDRESS** 1 Breakthrough Way, The Auditorium, Las Vegas, NV 89135).   • Mobilize Recovery

    • When: Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 4p-7p

    • Where: Foundation for Recovery (4800 Alpine Place, Las Vegas, NV 89108)

    • Cost: Free

    • About: Let's show Las Vegas the power of recovery! Your presence makes a difference. Come join us and be part of a nationwide movement for hope and healing. Mark your calendars for an unforgettable evening filled with music, community, and inspiration! We're rolling into the Foundation for Recovery to bring you an evening of celebration, connection, and empowerment, featuring a special performance by country music artist Whey Jennings!

  • Narcan at Night

    • When: Saturday, September 28th from 6p-9p

    • Where: Around Las Vegas

    • About: Several outreach teams will be dispersing Narcan, Fentanyl test strips and overdose and Harm reduction awareness kits throughout the city

  • Recovery Village

    • When: Saturday, October 12th from 12pm-8p

    • Where: Inside Las Vegas Pride festival at the historic 5th street school

    • Cost: Free to attend, sponsorship opportunities available

    • About: A Safe Space to celebrate pride loud and proud. There will be lots of things to do including music, speakers, social activities, sober bad, resource vendors and more!

  • Fund for Resilient Nevada (FRN) Dashboard

  • The National Survey on Drug Use and Health

    • About: The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) is a nationwide study that provides up-to-date information on tobacco, alcohol, and drug use, mental health and other health-related issues in the United States. Each year, NSDUH interviews approximately 70,000 people age 12 and older for this important study. The study results are released each Fall, and are used to inform public health programs and policies.

  • Closure of Fearless Kind

    • About: The Fearless Kind announced they are closing their doors due to financial strain on their program. The SNOAC community and leadership wishes everyone from Fearless Kind well in the next steps of their journey.

  • Call for 2025 Southern Nevada Substance Misuse and Overdose Prevention Summit Planning Committee

 

Upcoming Training Opportunities

  • Nevada Opioid Center For Excellence Harm Reduction Listening Session

    • When: Tuesday, September 17 from 11am to 12:30p

    • Where: Virtual Via Zoom

    • Cost: Free

    • About: This Listening Session shares experiences with fentanyl test strip education and distribution, preparedness for overdose emergencies; the evolution of Harm Reduction, and emerging groups of synthetic opioids.

  • Harm Reduction 201: Understanding Drug Related Stigma

    • When: Tuesday, September 24 from 8a-12p

    • Where: Virtual via Teams

    • About: This training takes a critical look at the history of the substance misuse movement and its impact on recovery and health equity in our community. This workshop will introduce the concepts of social inequalities faced by people who use drugs, the stigma they experience, and how this impacts their ability to access services.

  • 2024 Nevada Statewide Conference on Addressing Homelessness

    • When: Monday, October 7th to Tuesday, October 8th

    • Where: Flamingo Las Vegas (3555 Las Vegas Blvd S, Las Vegas, NV 89109)

    • Cost: $200 per person

    • About: Our conference provides a crucial platform for stakeholders from various sectors—including government agencies, non-profit organizations, businesses, community members, and People with Lived Experience—to come together, share insights, and explore effective strategies to combat homelessness. We are proud to share that our 2022 and 2023 conferences were sold out, with over 300 attendees from across the state including special guests from HUD, as well as written, video, and in person support of State, County, and City Elected Officials from across Nevada, National Alliance to End Homelessness, National Low Income Housing Coalition, and United States Interagency Council on Homelessness— reflecting the high level of engagement and the critical importance of this issue.
