About: The Center's Link Up Team and Foundation for Recovery will be hosting a free screening of "The Anonymous People". A 2013 documentary about the 23.5 million Americans LIVING in long term recovery from alcohol and other substances. This documentary looks at the stigmatization and long associated participation in successful anonymous 12 step groups that have kept the recovery voices silent and in the dark for decades. Looking into the vacuum created by this silence, the film brings awareness to the media sensationalism of addiction that continues to perpetuate the "lurid public fascination" of this preventable and treatable health condition.Much like people living with HIV/AIDS and breast cancer, these courageous advocates are coming out of the shadows to tell their true stories. With faces and voices of leaders, corporate executives, celebrities, and everyday people, we no longer have to stay silent. The recovery movement is fueling a changing conversation and transforming public opinion and policies on the local, state, and national levels.
Location: The Center (401 S. Maryland Pkwy.)
